QC Technician

Do you have experience in the production of microbial proteins and vaccines as a QC Technician?

As a QC Technician – Protein Analytics, you will be part of a team that uses various analytical techniques to assess the quantity, efficacy, and purity of intermediates, drug substances, and drug products. In the context of biologics and vaccines, you will contribute to the development of characterization methods and identification of key attributes. You will be experienced in GMP-compliant manufacturing of biologic drugs and live microbial products, as well as a broad range of therapeutic proteins and vaccines.

What are your roles and responsibilities as a QC Technician?

Your roles and responsibilities depend on the size of the organization and laboratory, as well as the lab’s area of focus. In all cases, you will work closely with scientists in the laboratory. Typically, your tasks include:

Testing:

• Intermediates, drug substances and drug products: using methods such as HPLC, spectrophotometry, SDS-PAGE and ELISA;
• Usability samples: e.g., TOC, nitrates, conductivity;
• Raw materials: e.g., FTIR, GC.

Investigations:

• Validation studies for product-specific methods;
• Stability studies (testing);
• Sample analysis for product characterization, formulation and process development;
• Method maintenance – critical method parameters, test procedures and training;
• Data processing, statistical analysis and reporting to internal stakeholders;
• General laboratory tasks, from equipment maintenance and calibration to reviewing test data and quality documentation;
• Striving for continuous improvement of the laboratory environment and services.

What education and skills do you need as a QC Technician?

The educational requirements start with a bachelor’s degree (MLO or HLO) or a master’s degree in analytical chemistry or a related field. You should also have work experience, preferably in a relevant setting such as GMP or the pharmaceutical sector. This experience should have been gained in a ML-II+ laboratory or higher, or within the industry. Practical skills and knowledge of specific biomolecule analysis techniques are an advantage. These may include AUC, CE, DLS, FFF-MALS and LC.

What salary can you expect as a QC Technician?

Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience as well as the size of the organization. However, the salary for a Lab Technician (PA) in the Netherlands typically ranges between €30,000 and €53,000 per year.
