What are your tasks and responsibilities as a Manager QC?

Your responsibilities may vary depending on the company you work for, but generally fall under three main categories:

1) Production

• Analyzing raw materials, in-process samples and final products and confirming acceptance of incoming materials and finished products;
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure products reach customers on time and meet quality standards;
• Overseeing proper equipment maintenance and advising on new equipment purchases when necessary.

2) Regulatory and development

• Ensuring the application of GMP, ISO and other relevant regulations related to laboratory housekeeping, quality and safety;
• Staying updated on professional developments and enhancing the quality management system through long-term proposals and implementation;
• Representing the department by overseeing internal and external audits to ensure they are conducted reliably, efficiently and on schedule.

3) People management

• Managing team performance, including talent development and maximizing employee potential;
• Motivating employees and fostering collaboration;
• Providing a safe work environment.

What education and skills do you need as Manager QC?

The required education and skills largely depend on the seniority and specifics of the role. Typical qualifications and experience may include:

• A degree (HLO/WO) in Chemistry or Life Sciences with post-HBO courses in quality management and auditing;
• Previous managerial experience (minimum of 3 years) in manufacturing, quality control of laboratory settings;
• In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, GLP), along with experience in maintaining and improving quality systems.

• Project-oriented and pragmatic approach, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent written, verbal and listing skills;
• High attention to detail, observational skills and accuracy;
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities.

What salary can you expect as a Lab Manager?

A QC Lab Manager’s salary depends on various factors, such as your qualifications, experience and the seniority of the role. Generally, you can expect a salary between €45.000 and €91.000 per year in the Netherlands. Additional benefits may include extra days of leave and a pension plan.
